The project, proposed by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, has faced criticism from urban planners who argue that the tunnel road does not address the root causes of Bengaluru’s traffic woes. They highlight that the city’s congestion is primarily due to the lack of efficient public transport and the overuse of private vehicles. Building more roads, they argue, will only lead to more cars on the road, perpetuating the cycle of congestion.
Environmental concerns have also been raised, including potential tree clearances and the impact of prolonged construction timelines. The cabinet has also greenlit a Rs 500 crore sky deck project, aimed at boosting Bengaluru’s tourism with a 250-meter-tall structure offering panoramic city views. The location for this project has yet to be finalized.
