Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone with the launch of production for the Vande Bharat Sleeper coaches at the newly inaugurated Marathwada Rail Coach Factory (MRCF) in Latur. This development marks a major advancement in one of the country’s largest railway projects
The manufacturing of these advanced sleeper coaches will be undertaken by Kinet Railway Solutions, a joint venture between Russian firm TMH and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The contract, valued at $6.5 billion, covers the production of 120 trainsets, equating to 1,920 Vande Bharat Sleeper coaches. The first prototypes are anticipated to be completed by 2025.
Kinet Railway Solutions will also handle the service and maintenance of these coaches at three designated depots for a period of 35 years, ensuring long-term operational efficiency.
Sathyamurthy K., Managing Director at Kinet Latur, highlighted the broader impact of this initiative: “This plant represents more than just a manufacturing facility. It is a catalyst for social and economic growth in the region. With over 10,000 people involved in the production process, this project will create jobs, support local industries, and advance skill development, aligning with our vision for a developed India by 2047.
