New Delhi, December 11, 2025 –
India has opted to install a new indigenous shield over the National Capital Region (NCR), including Delhi, as a significant step towards strategic self-reliance and national security. The advanced system aims to protect the capital from various aerial threats, including long-range missiles, drones, and fast-moving planes. This decision highlights India’s shift towards strengthening its defence architecture using indigenous technology.
The deployment of the newly developed Integrated Weapon System (IADWS) is a significant step towards the country’s goal of self-sufficient air defence.
The decision came after claims that Pakistan attempted to strike Indian territory during Operation Sindoor in May of this year.
The upcoming system is a multi-layered defensive shield, leveraging domestically developed missile platforms such as the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) and Very Short Range Systems (VSHORADS), along with an integrated network of surveillance sensors and command-and-control units.
These components will work together to secure important facilities around the National Capital Region.
According to sources, the demand for this indigenous solution became more urgent following the reported targeting incident, prompting the administration to prioritise a local approach to defence.

“Defending the skies today safeguards the peace of tomorrow.”
The deployment of the new system demonstrates India’s determination to be self-sufficient. The indigenous shield, which has multi-layered detection, radar, and missile capabilities, provides faster response and stronger defence for Delhi NCR.
Experts believe the indigenous system is not only a deterrence, but also a model for future defensive measures in India’s critical cities. Its use of modern radars, command networks, and mobile missiles exemplifies cutting-edge home defence technology.
A New Era in Indian Air Defence
The deployment of an indigenous shield for Delhi‑NCR marks a pivotal moment in India’s defense narrative. With the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS), the country is signalling its resolve to secure its capital against modern aerial threats — while boosting self‑reliance and strategic autonomy.
For the people of Delhi and the NCR, this move could redefine security — offering peace of mind in uncertain times. For India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, it represents a leap toward building domestically-developed, scalable defence infrastructure.
As the system rolls out, the world will watch — and so will India’s adversaries.
